The Pointer is believed to have originated from a cross between Spanish, Italian and French hunting dogs that arrived in England by the early 18th century, and since then has become particularly popular, more so, in England. At first it was used to find hares. With the spread of firearms, hunting with a net was abolished and a capable herding dog became necessary, so it was used at first by the aristocracy and then by all classes. Today they remain a lovable and reliable herding dog, and because of their beautiful profile they are entered into dog shows.
The Pointer is a beautiful dog whose height varies from 61 to 69 cm and its weight from 20 to 30 kg. The skull is of moderate width, proportional to the length of the muzzle, which is directed upwards and ends in moist, soft and wide nostrils. The eyes are set far apart, dark in color to match the coat, and have a friendly expression. The ears start high on the head, are thin, large, end in a nose and are attached to the cheeks. The neck is long, muscular and arched. The legs are strong and muscular. The medium-length tail is thick at the root and gradually becomes thinner. The coat is short, shiny, fine, hard and dense. The color of the coat can be white, yellow, orange or black, usually in a two-color combination, but it is not excluded that the coloring can be monochromatic or trichromatic.
It is an ideal dog for hunting since it has a keen sense of smell and is a good tracker. He is a friendly dog, especially with children. He is full of energy, obedient and easy to train. He sleeps outside, needs a moderate amount of food but needs a lot of exercise.
